Like any art, we film as an act of creation and a learning process in itself. In other words, as we search for an image to capture with the camera, we simultaneously seek meaning in what we are observing. This holds true for all art. But when making documentary works about the artist at work, the whole act becomes a sort of mirror: a process of discovery by the observer of the process of discovery by the one being observed.

This short portrait of Antwerp-based artist, Bert Lezy, was a part of a larger project to tell the story of the “Sprekende Ezels” to coincide with the group’s 25th anniversary celebration.
